How this works. Plain language.
Short version: The free theme is free to use on any site. Canvas Pro is a paid annual license; the license is per activation tier, not per developer. Be reasonable, don’t resell it, and we will be reasonable too.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are between you and Loupely, LLC (“Loupely,” “we,” “us”), a Pennsylvania company. They govern your use of the Loupely Canvas theme, Loupely Canvas Lite, and Loupely Canvas Pro (together, “the Products”). By downloading, installing, or purchasing any Product, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Products.

Free theme license
Loupely Canvas and Loupely Canvas Lite are released under the GNU General Public License v2 or later (GPL-2.0+), consistent with WordPress itself. You may use, modify, and redistribute them freely under the terms of that license.
In plain terms: use the free theme on as many sites as you like, for any purpose, including commercial projects. Modify it to your needs. You don’t owe us anything. We ask only that if you redistribute a modified version, you do so under the same license and make clear it’s your modification, not ours.
Canvas Pro license
Canvas Pro is sold under a proprietary annual license. The license grants you the right to install and use Canvas Pro on the number of WordPress sites specified by your plan tier during the license period.
- Single site: one active WordPress installation
- Studio: up to five active WordPress installations
- Agency: unlimited WordPress installations
A “site” means one unique WordPress installation at one domain or subdomain. Staging and local development copies do not count against your activation limit, provided they are not publicly accessible.
Your license is for your own use (or your clients’ sites, if you purchased an Agency license). You may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute Canvas Pro as a standalone product.
Purchases and renewals
Canvas Pro is billed annually. All prices are in US dollars. Your purchase includes one year of software updates and support from the date of purchase.
Renewals: Your license does not auto-renew without your action. We will email you before expiry with a renewal offer at the current renewal rate. You are never enrolled in automatic billing without explicit consent.
Launch pricing: Prices listed as “launch pricing” are promotional rates available for a limited time. If you purchase at a launch price, your renewal rate is calculated from the full post-launch price, not the promotional rate, unless stated otherwise at the time of purchase.
What happens when a license lapses: If your license expires and you don’t renew, Canvas Pro keeps working on your site. Existing features are not disabled. You lose access to updates and to support until you renew. We will not break your site over a missed renewal.
Refunds: We offer a 14-day refund window from the date of purchase, no questions asked, provided you have not used your license on more than one site. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion. To request a refund, email canvas@loupelylens.com with your order number.
Acceptable use
You may use the Products for any lawful purpose. You may not:
- Redistribute or resell Canvas Pro as a standalone product or as part of a theme or plugin bundle without a written agreement with us
- Attempt to circumvent license enforcement, remove license notices, or tamper with the license validation mechanism
- Use the Products in a way that violates any applicable law
The Loupely Canvas free theme may be included in theme bundles or redistributed, provided it is unmodified or clearly marked as modified, and distributed under the GPL-2.0+ license.
Updates and support
The free theme receives updates distributed through GitHub and loupelycanvas.com. The bundled update checker surfaces these in your WordPress admin. We update the free theme as capacity allows; updates are not guaranteed on any particular schedule.
Canvas Pro license holders receive plugin updates through the Pro delivery mechanism for the duration of their license. Support for Pro is provided by email at canvas@loupelylens.com. We aim to respond to support requests within three business days, but this is a goal, not a guarantee.
Free theme support is community-best-effort. We read and often respond to issues filed on GitHub, but we don’t carry a support obligation for the free theme.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Products are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We don’t warrant that the Products will be error-free, that bugs will be fixed on any particular schedule, or that they will be compatible with every WordPress version, plugin, or hosting environment.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Loupely, LLC’s liability to you for any claim arising from use of the Products is limited to the amount you paid for Canvas Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose. If you are using the free theme, that limit is zero — which is to say, we have no liability to free users beyond what is required by applicable law.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, including loss of revenue, loss of data, or downtime, even if we have been advised such damages might occur.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud, gross negligence, or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Pennsylvania, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify Pro customers by email. Your continued use of the Products after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
